Kampala March 20, 2022, Equipment worth over UGX285 million shillings (USD79,336) has been handed over to farmers from 25 cooperatives operating in the bulk milking industry. The milk from these cooperatives is directly sold to Jesa Farm Dairy for processing and marketing.
The equipment was part of a UGX3.66 billion-shilling project dubbed the Accelerate Dairy Production and Productivity (ADAP). Of this, aBi Development contributed sh2.45 billion shillings while the balance of this money was provided by Heifer International while the project implementation was done by Heifer Uganda who co-partnered with Jesa Farm Dairy.
The equipment handed over included; 25 fodder processing machines and 5 sets of yoghurt processing equipment for the cottage industry. These include 5 deep freezers, milk cans, sealers, packaging materials and flavours, assorted AI kits (3-3 litres field flasks, 3- 45 litres nitrogen tanks, and AI guns).
The handover ceremony was graced by the State Minister for Animal Industry Lt. Col (RTD) Hon. Bright Rwamirama, who welcomed the initiative and urged farmers to use the equipment to get out of poverty and transform the sub sector into a well-functioning dairy value chain.
