aBi Founders, Board, Management and Staff bid farewell to the long serving aBi Trust Chairperson and Director aBi Finance, Mrs. Lydia Ochieng-Obbo after 8 years of dedicated service to aBi. Lydia’s tenure ended in April 2018 and she will be replaced by Hon. Gerald Ssendaula, as the new aBi Trust Chairperson and Director aBi Finance.
In her farewell speech, the outgoing Chairperson said, “I am leaving with a sense of accomplishment for what the institution has achieved during my tenure. aBi conducted two independent reviews of aBi Trust and aBi Finance to assess the impact of the institution on the sector and the results were overwhelmingly positive. I hope that this has strengthened the confidence of the Founders, Board and Management that indeed, aBi is substantially contributing towards the growth of the agribusiness sector in Uganda, and that aBi will continue to be a catalyst of transformational agricultural development.” She thanked the aBi Founders (Governments of Denmark and Uganda) and Board, as well as Management and staff of aBi, for the support that was accorded to her and colleagues.
Speaking on behalf of the Founders, Hon. Gerald Ssendaula acknowledged Mrs. Lydia Ochieng-Obbo contribution to the institution and the agriculture sector in general. He said that during her tenure, aBi greatly contributed towards strengthening competitiveness of the agricultural and agro-processing sectors and loosening the agricultural financing bottlenecks through increasing the availability and accessibility of financial services. In addition, the outgoing Chairperson was commended for spearheading the process of cleaning up the aBi portfolio, enhancing compliance and making improvements in grant management, monitoring and evaluation, reporting and automation of processes.
