aBi welcomed a new joint Board of Directors of both aBi Development (formerly aBi Trust) and aBi Finance for a 3-year term starting 2019. The new 7-member board includes 3 members who served on the previous Board, namely; Ms. Sarah Walusimbi (Chairperson), Mr. Warwick Thomson (Vice Chairperson) and Mr. David Kabateraine; and new members namely; Ms. Sophie Nkuutu, Mr. Michael Karamagi Kairumba, Mr. Felix Okoboi and Mr. Tom Adlam. The Company Secretary is Ms. Joan Abila.
The new Board held various induction & working sessions from 1st – 7th March 2019 at aBi. The induction was climaxed with the Board’s introduction to aBi Staff & Managementat at a cocktail party on Thursday 7th March 2019 at aBi, in Nakasero. Ms. Majbrit Holm Jakobsen, Head of Mission, Royal Danish Embassy officially welcomed the new Board and reiterated the Development Partners’ confidence and support towards aBi especially, on the implementation of the new aBi Business Plan 2019/23.
The aBi board is tasked, among other duties, to perform an oversight role and translate the overall strategic objective of “a competitive, profitable and sustainable agriculture and agribusiness sector in support of equitable wealth creation in Uganda”, into policy guidelines and strategies, to be executed by management and staff.
Ms. Walusimbi, aBi Chairperson, thanked aBi’s development partners, management and staff for ensuring that aBi is playing its role as an enterprise that channels development cooperation funding to agribusinesses and agricultural service providers in Uganda to build a strong and competitive agriculture sector. “The Board will work to ensure improved profitability, income and employment of Ugandan farmers and agribusinesses as part delivering the new Business Plan”, noted Ms. Walusimbi.
